LDN and Alopecia

No I’m not talking about the capital of the UK or quoting a Lily Allen song, I’m on about Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) – a drug that I’ve just started taking.

Apparently naltrexone, in a low dose (the LD in the LDN), can normalise the immune system — helping those with HIV/AIDS, cancer, autoimmune diseases, and central nervous system disorders. A lot to live up to.

The drugs

Naltrexone’s normal use is for treating addiction to opiate drugs such as heroin or morphine. The dose used for this purpose is usually between 50 and 300mg daily. The one I am taking is way, way lower. I am starting at 1mg and going up steadily to a max of 4.5 mg.

You need to get it on private prescription which is what I have done. For  more info on LDN – go to the LDN research trust.

The alopecia

Well – it’s back with a vengeance on my chest.

There has also been a general thinning on the top of my head and a few small patches have been threatening to make a more formal appearance for ages now.

Logging my results

I started taking it on 5 November 2016 and started on a 1mg dose of the liquid. After a few weeks I am now up to 4.5.

I am off to Australia today for 5 weeks so will try and blog while I am there and keep you up to date with my progress.

Cheers

R.

  1. Hey Reece, I’m from Melbourne (Australia)
I don’t know when my AA started as I noticed some mild hair loss on legs and arms even years ago but mine kicked into high gear about 6 months ago.

I’m in that inbetween phase where I’ve got patches of beard, hitler ‘stache and a bit on the top. Still haven’t lost any eyebrow or eyelashes which is a blessing I guess.

I am hoping the rest of the hair will either go or come back. Shaving daily helps but still annoying that you can’t get fully bald shaving.

I got excited the other day thinking I was growing some white hair and that it was a sign of it coming back but it was just a hard lesson that I now need to wear sunscreen (never been sunburnt before in my life)

Anyway, I wanted to share abit of my story as yours has been helpful to me accepting my AA.

AA isn’t something that’s really discussed and there isn’t much out there on it (except some future hope from Columbia uni in the states that they are coming up with something that works for a large majority)

Anyway, keep the photos and updates coming and thank you for the blog

    1. Hi there and thanks so much for sharing your story too. The Hitler ‘stache is the worst isn’t it. For obvious reasons – but also because it looks comical – when all you want to actually do is shave it off. I am away to check out the Columbia uni information that you mentioned. Keep in touch and please keep me up to date with your progress. 🙂

    1. Hi there – I haven’t seen a massive difference and am still getting lots of falling hairs BUT there doesn’t seem to be any new spots. And the spots I do have don’t feel as bad. I am going to write a blog post shortly. I have been neglecting my duties! How are you?
